What is Netflix?

Netflix is an online service that allows customers in more than 190 countries around the world to watch movies and TV shows over the Internet by streaming them directly from Netflix’s servers. Instead of having a movie stored permanently on your computer (or mobile device), Netflix stores information about it for you in a virtual ” locker in the cloud,” allowing you instant playback as soon as you press play.

How does Netflix work?

Netflix is an online streaming service where users can access and watch movies and TV episodes over the Internet. Like traditional television, you can enjoy your favorite shows on network websites, but be aware that these are not always free. When you subscribe to a traditional television package from cable or satellite providers, you have little control over which channels you receive; even if you’re able to afford the most expensive packages out there, it still may not include your favorite channels. With Netflix, however, the content isn’t pre-selected by a network but instead created by professional studios or producers – so Netflix customers pay less for more choice in programming. There are two ways to add content to your account: instantly streaming and using your queue.

Instant streaming – The instant watch feature allows you to jump straight into watching a TV show or movie after deciding that you want to see it. You don’t have to wait for the file to download completely and can begin viewing as soon as about five seconds of playback ends (depending on your connection speed).

Netflix Queue – Netflix creates queues so that its users can keep track of which movies and shows they would like to watch later. Much like a grocery list, this list organizes everything in one place and removes any guesswork or scrolling necessary to find something good. Once you’ve decided what you’re going for, simply select it from your queue, click play, and enjoy! You can also add individual episodes instead of entire seasons.

Netflix uses cookies to remember what you’ve watched and the preferences you set so that it can suggest more movies or TV shows assuming it knows your taste in content. For example, if you tend to watch dramas and sci-fi shows, Netflix will begin offering up suggestions of those genres instead of children’s programming. You can also search titles by an actor so that you can find a favorite show without having to know its title or browse through pages upon pages of options.

How much does Netflix cost?

Netflix charges between $7.99 and $11.99 per month for its streaming service (this includes unlimited DVD rental and a single stream at a time). This is generally cheaper than paying cable television when factoring in all of the additional fees cable companies charge. The service costs $7.99 per month for the first year and then increases to $8.99 in subsequent years, however they will send you a free reminder before this time period is up so that you can continue your subscription without changing any billing information. If you would like to have multiple profiles on one account (for example, if you’re sharing an account with family or roommates), each profile runs an additional $5 per month.

Netflix provides up to four different content quality options under normal viewing conditions: low bandwidth , standard definition , high bandwidth , and ultra high definition . “Low” quality should work on any device; it’s basically DVD-quality and looks just like traditional TV. Standard definition is best for slower Internet speeds (dial-up users should not attempt this). “High” and “ultra high” quality is recommended for HDTVs, those on a DSL connection, or those with faster Internet (at least 1.5 mbps download speed); it’s similar to streaming video on YouTube in terms of quality.
